Palazzo Reale

PALAZZO dell'ARENGARIO

• PALAZZO REALE - Piazzetta Reale.Where today is the Palazzo Reale, in the past had been Palazzo del Broletto Vecchio as the seat of government of Milan. Since the early Middle Ages Palazzo del Broletto Vecchio was the seat of the municipal government for many centuries. Today the Palazzo Reale is a cultural center with numerous changing exhibitions.
• PALAZZO MARINO - Piazza della Scala.

  Office of the Mayor of Milan. The banker Tommaso Marino from Genoa began in 1557 with the construction of the grandiose palace that he wanted to give his young Venetian woman. But for the young beautiful Venetian Cornaro Ara the new home was a golden cage. After the bankruptcy of the Marino family, the palace was transferred to state ownership and served for public purposes. Since 1861 Palazzo Marino has been the seat of local government Palazzo Marino in Milan.

• VILLA REALE, Via Palestro 16. Villa Reale has been also known under the name of Villa Belgiojoso Bonaparte. In the early 19th Century the villa was designed by Viennese architects Teten Leopold Pollak in the neoclassical style.
  After the death of Count Ludovico Belgioioso the villa became the property of the Italian state and was the residence of Napoleon. At the Villa died in 1858, the Austrian Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky. Belgiojoso villa now houses the Gallery of Modern Art and Museum is one of the most beautiful houses. A 24 000 sqm large public park surrounds the villa.
• PALAZZO dell'ARENGARIO  – Piazza Duomo. Museo del Novecento. The palace dell'Arengario houses the Museum Novecento newly established in 2010 with art of the 20th Century. From the subway station Piazza Duomo a spiral ramp leads to the Palazzo Arengario. At the beginning of the ramp two sculptures of "Bagni Misteriosi" are issued by Giorgio de Chirico, who previously had their place in the garden of the Triennial.
• PALAZZO ANGUISSOLA - Piazza della Scala, Entry via Manzoni 10. The historic palaces of the noble families of Milan, Palazzo Anguissola from the 17th Century and Palazzo Brentani host together the museum Galleria d'Italia with masterpieces of Italian painting and sculpture of the 19th Century.

• PALAZZO MEZZANOTTE, Piazza degli Affari Headquarter of the Milan Stock Exchange. The palace was built 1932 by the architect Paolo Mezzanotte as a trading house for cash and securities. • PALAZZO della RAGIONE - Piazza Mercanti. The Palace of Justice consisted of an open ground floor for meetings of the population and one closed floor upstairs for meetings of the Council. From the balcony (Loggia) the decisions had been announced.
• CA' GRANDE - Via Festa del Perdono 5 The former OSPEDALE MAJOR now houses the State University of Milan, Statale. The construction of the Ca 'Grande was initiated by Francesco Sforza and the construction began in 1456. The Florentine architect Antonio Averulino, called Filarete was commissioned to build. The same Filarete had already constructed the Tower of the Castello in Milan "Torre del Filarete". With two large cloisters, Ca 'Grande was one of the first buildings in the Renaissance style of northern Italy.

• TORRE VELASCA is the first skyscraper in Milan. The project is based on the model of New York's skyscrapers, and was originally intended as a steel construction. However, it was realized in the Art Nouveau style in traditional concrete.
• CASA DI RIPOSO G. VERDI, P.zza Buonarroti . The Foundation Giuseppe Verdi was established in 1896 by it’s founder Verdi himself as a retirement home for singers and musicians who had been less successful and financially strong in there’s life than Verdi. He described the construction of the house as his most beautiful masterpiece. In the oratorio are the grave of Verdi and his second wife Giuseppina Strepponi.

• STAZIONE CENTRALE. The main railway station Stazione Centrale in Piazza Duca d'Aosta: The enormous railway station is one of the biggest and most beautiful head railway stations in Europe.
• ROTONDA DELLA BESANA, Via San Barnaba: The ring-shaped building from the late Baroque was once a church and was later used as a cemetery of the Ospedale Maggiore. 1787, the building was abandoned and created the cemetery outside the city walls. Since 1958, the city the Rotona di Via Besana has been used for exhibitions.

• ORTO BOTANICO, Via Brera 28. In the center of Milan, in the Brera Palace, there is almost hidden the botanical garden with an area of 5000 sqm. It was created in 1774 by Maria Teresa of Habsburg. • New Skyline Porta Nuova Garibaldi: The Porta Nuova project includes the complete transformation of the urban area Porta Nuova, Corso Garibaldi and Piazza della Repubblica. Responsible are the architect Cesar Pelli, Stefano Boeri and Nicholas Grimshaw, who gave their name to the skyscrapers.
• Project CityLife Milano: The project includes the transformation of the old trade center of the city. On 170,000 sqm, has been created a "green ray" from Sempione Park to Portello Exhibition. Skyscrapers of architects like Arata Isozaki, Daniel Libeskind and Zaha Hadid shape the skyline.
