500 hotspots provide in Milan from September 2012 a free wireless access. Each registered user can utilize every day within an hour traffic of 300 MB in high-speed broadband, following that the browsing speed will be reduced (192kb/s).
Starting in September 2012 the outdoor WiFi network joins up with the approximately 50 free access points already installed in the public registry offices in the city zones, in Palazzo Marino, the public libraries and in some museums.

Open Wifi Milano, already installed and operating in over 250 locations in the city is actually composed of 500 hotspots, a second network will be installed and in the coming months it will extend the existing WiFi infrastructure with the installation of an additional 1,000 hotspots.

Registration for Wireless Milan
To sign up, you have to be in an area that is covered by the wireless signal.
After selecting the wireless network OpenWifi Milan, the home page appears with a variety of institutional sites of public interest where you can surf freely and without registration and use of the offer. On the home page you will be registered with your user ID (telephone number) and password required for surfing in Internet.
Then you are connecting to the network. Now open your browser and displays the home page, where you enter the phone number that is required for registration.
Each user receives a daily amount of 300 MB of data transfer in download for navigating free of charge.
With this credit, the user can navigate one hour at high speed. After exceeding this limit, your browser will be reduced at the speed of 192 kb / s until 12.00 p.m. The daily amount of traffic renews and is again available from 00:00 a.m. the following day.
Each user who has an Italian SIM card has join in with his phone number. After registration, the user gets via free SMS a password that is used as login. The password is permanently valid.
At the ATM Point in the Cathedral Square (entrance to the metro) the access to foreign SIM cards can be activated presenting an ID document.
The telephone number, including country code, is the user ID, the password will be sent during the period of registration by SMS.
