Public Transport
Milan and its surrounding area has a well-developed network of public transport. The transport company ATM includes 5 subway lines (red, green, yellow, blu and purple line), trams and buses. The waiting times are very short during the day. Tickets can be used for underground, bus and tram with changing. Charges and tickets are valid to the undergrounds, bus and tram as well as to the Trenord suburban trains.
The new pricelist for public transport
The ticket costs € 2,20 and is valid for 90 min. You can use all public transport: underground, train, bus and the Trenord suburban trains in 21 locations around Milan (tariff zone M1 to M3). Tickets are available in many bars, newspaper stands, tobacconists (tabacchi) and at all metro stations.
Or more simply: Travel with your contactless bank card or mobile phone on metro and surface lines. Touch your card on the reader to open the orange ticket gate at the start of your journey and touch again at the end of your journey to exit.

The transport is free of charge and allowed under the following conditions: Small or medium-sized dogs must have a muzzle and be kept on a leash. One dog is allowed per wagon. Dogs must be held in the arms on escalators and catwalks.
Transporting is allowed at the following times: From the opening of the underground to 7.30 a.m. from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and from 8.30 p.m. until closing.
Pets are not allowed during peak hours. Dogs, cats and other small pets, in a special container with a longest side of at most 50 cm (max. Two containers per passenger) 3.
Dogs accompanying blind or visually impaired people can be transported on the underground without time limit, even if they do not have a muzzle. The dog only needs to wear a muzzle if this is expressly requested by the staff or the passengers. Dogs must be held in the arms on stairs and catwalks. This does not apply to guide dogs that are recognized by the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired. The guide dog accompanying the blind person must also be insured against third parties for transit on escalators or moving walks.
