The monastery of Certosa di Pavia is located in the south of Milan. It dates from the 15th Century and is still farmed by Carthusian monks. The sumptuously decorated church and convent are an attraction in northern Italy.
Besides the impressive church are to visit the two cloisters with the monks' cells.
The magnificent marble facade of the Certosa of Pavia was made in the style of Bramante. In the church there are the marble statues of Ludovico il Moro, former Master of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, and his wife died young, the graceful Beatrice d'Este.
Pavia and the Charterhouse is located 35 km south of Milan in the Po Valley on the River Ticino.
